Default AC compressor interval

Been wondering what the normal interval for the ac compressor is for when it kicks on and off. Seems when I run my defrost, or ac in the summer, it kicks on for about 5-7 seconds, then kicks off 5-7 seconds, then kicks on for 5-7 seconds, then off and repeats. Seems to me like the compressor should stay on longer and not cycle on and off as much. How long does yours stay on when on defrost or ac? Could I have just low freon?

Sounds like you're low on refrigerant. Also, depends on ambient temperatures as to how long the compressor will run.

Well i've got one of those refrigerant cans you can get at the auto parts store with the hose and gauge, maybe i'll try filling it some.

Use the can to check the pressure, and look at the chart that should be on it. It relates pressures to ambient temps. Take the pressure reading while the compressor is actually running.

agreed probably low on refrigerant... If so (I'll bet it is), check both schrader valves for leak. I've had to replace several.... an easy fix if that's where the leak is... or if it's a slow leak, I just put more freon in when it starts getting low again...
