Default Broken hood hinge

Passenger hinge broke last night when I started to open the hood. Haven't had time to get into it, but it looks like metal fatigue is the cause. Is this a common issue with the second gens? Guess I'll be making a winter trip to the junk yard.

Probably common on any 20+ year old vehicle....

Hinges and latches need regular maintenance like everything else. Be thankful we don't have stupid shocks on the hood. Those never last.

God's speed....I won't ever go into the junkyard in the winter, me and the cold don't get along.

Winter is the best time, You can stash stuff in your jacket and they will never see it. Look on craigs list for trucks being parted out, It may be as simple as removing two bolts.

So it broke near the rear pivot, pretty much like the "Similar Thread" that was automatically placed at the bottom of my post. I think I could be in/out of the JY pretty fast, given the temperature motivation. Anyone need anything while I'm there? Probably hit it this Saturday.

Here is that thread poster's picture...

Yup, that's broke, should be four or six bolts, and you are gone. A friend to hold the hood while you pull the hinge wouldn't be a bad idea. (either that, or a chunk of 2x4)

So I took this as a reminder to spray mine up again and wow I could close the hood with one finger now. Love PBblaster.

Yeah, one of my favorites in the chemical arsenal. It just removes rust, and brakes up the grit and grime though, so, basically, it's a cleaner. I generally hit whatever I am using the PB on with some spray white grease, to keep it lubed nicely. Works great.
