Default Reverse light problem

my reverse lights are coming on in reverse and also drive. I tried changing the bulbs and a new reverse light switch and still the same thing. I’ve looked for grounds but if it was a ground the lights wouldn’t light at all correct? Idk what’s going on any help on knowing where grounds are or adjustments which ever I would greatly appreciate it. Can email my at kuntryboy1029@yahoo.com or my cell 2523403140

Also when I screwed the new switch in I went rhrough my gears and they still came on in drive as well but when I went to he back to park I could go past neutral I actually had to back the switch out about 2 turns cuz it was hitting. Then it went to park but I measured both switches they’re exactly the same length

if you remove the switch connector and the lights go out...the problem must be with the switch, switch connector shorted to another pin in the connector or shift linkage.

I thought shift linkage as well but all my gears line up and shifts fine no slip in shifter. I put in a new switch and it does the same thing. I’m not to experimented on electrical but what should I look for if the pins are shorted out like u said

If it goes into the gear you tell it to, and shifts properly, likely the linkage is adjusted fine. Basically, you need to find out WHY the reverse lights are powered when not in reverse. Gotta be a short somewhere.

Are the lights on when the connector is removed from the switch?
