Default Questions about the sport model 2001 ram 1500

Hey everyone. New to Dodge Forum here. Was actually wondering why most of the sport model trucks that were produced in 2000 and newer mostly came with the posi-trac rear and the 5.9l engine. Mine is a 2001, and it has the open rear.. and also the 5.2. Was also wondering the best way to get a posi rear.. is it better to go aftermarket with a detroit and have the rear rebuilt or buy a factory used one and rebuild it from there?

Thanks everyone,

Raymond

You can get the posi units for like 250 I think. Try. www.drivetriandepot.com or http://www.valleytruckparts.com/

I would just get an aftermarket one. First link I put is a good one I think.

Once again here is a link that will answer many questions:

http://dodgeram.info/2001/models/1500.html

Off-Road Group
--- Includes the Heavy-Duty Service Group, limited-slip rear differential, unique suspension, special skid plates, tow hooks, 4.10 axle ratio, fog lamps, special graphics, off-road tires, and 17" cast aluminum wheels

An anti-spin rear differential is optional on the other models which as far as I know is the same as the limited slip diff. described in the off-road package. Don't know why they call them different though.

Axles --- Anti-spin rear differential (specific ratios only): it doesn't list which ratios though[:@]

and like i siad...a lot are special orderded... like the sport group describes as a aux tranny cooler like the heavy duty group. also re-described in the offraod grouping too.. i ahve the offraod sport package .. and no aux tranny cooler nor sighns of one ever being on there... if you look carefully... the re-ocurring "S" and "O" means STANDARD or OPTION... meaning you can have a special grouping of options but half of them are OPTIONAL on certain models... with the grouping options on that page...2 peopl could have identical looking trucks but be completley different.. a buildsheet is more usefull then that page..

I have 3.92's and I have LSD. I wonder if it was 3.92 and 4.10's only?

Socha.. i have looked at the rear end options on a hollander parts system and the 3.92 were an option then the 3.55 were an option also. Only thing being the 3.55 came with locking or non locking.. was just wondering about this all because, everyone i know who has a sport 2wd has the posi rear with the 360...

Hmm so it is doable. I guess it just depends on what you want to do with your truck. If your gonne jack it up and get bigger tires in the future you'll need higher gears. So it'd be cheaper to ride it all out untill you get the other gears and get either posi or a locker all at once.

But if your gonna keep the same gears just keep on looking for a posi unit, or locker Aftermarket would be alot better and probably cheaper. I heard somewhere that the LSD units that came from the factory actually have a tendancy to crap out after a while [&:] Called the dealer up here once and they said they keep 3 IN STOCK at all times. They have to put them in trucks that work in the oil fields all day on a regular basis.

I think mine might be on its way out too. When the rear end is lifted up and you spin one tire the other spins the opposite direction, not the same. But on gravel or snow and I floor it both spin.
