I've replaced a couple of pieces that were cracked on the inside, the bezel around the gauges and the glove department. The PO had the bezel and dash replaced 3 times under warranty. My question, do they make end cap covers? I don't feel like pulling both parts of the dash and acquiring one with the same color. I don't want a used dash to have them crack again. The 2 caps won't come off that I know of.

 

Good grief, are you serious? That many dashes? Sheesh it took a decade for my first crack to appear.

No, I've never seen the bottom portions aftermarket. Also never seen them cracked. Best bet is junkyard replacement.

 

Correct me if I'm wrong but those are able to come off they are part of the whole lower section right?

 

Yeah, I think I get what you're asking - there is a metal subframe to the entire dash structure and several "knee" panels along the bottom front. But I've only ever removed the glove box, driver's kick panel, and center cubby. Then the air bag, cluster, and radio is middle, then the whole cap or dash covers the top. I've had mine opened up probably a dozen times but I think there's either screws or plastic clips holding these bottom pieces to the metal. I hope they aren't plastic welded.

 

Thanks for the info. I'll pull the glove compartment and poke around today to see if/how they come off.

 

I know they are screwed to the metal frame. But I believe it's all one piece the end caps don't come off by themselves

Looked at it yesterday and the end caps are part of the lower dash plastic. The pieces come off with screws, from what I can see through the glove compartment. The end caps are a piece of the plastic that runs from the end cap passenger side to the cup holder in the middle, that's where I stopped looking. It looks like it has to come off as 1 piece from side to side, so tearing the dash apart would be needed. Maybe 15 years from now my grandson can replace it.

As for the 3 dash replacements during warranty, the truck was out in the desert heat. The last one has been on it for 12 years. When I put a thin layer of silicone grease on any of the interior plastic, you could tell it soaked it up a bit. Made it shine too.

 

This is what needs replaced. That's not going to happen anytime soon.
