Hi everybody! I am new here even tho I have been on this site many times looking for answers & I just l love this site! It's very informative. I have a 1997 Dodge ram 1500 5.2 2wd. I have many questions but for now I have this one to deal with. Can anybody tell me the what bolts i need for the manifold as I have 2 missing...the 2 on the back on drivers side. Nobody here can tell me & I can't seem to find it anywhere on internet. Thanks in advance

A rule of thumb is to have the length of engagement into the female thread the same as the thread diameter. For example, a 3/8 diameter bolt would need a 3/8 deep engagement minumum. To determine thread pitch you can have a few extra bolts of various sizes laying around. Having a thread pitch gauge both metric and standard would help here, also a plastic thread diameter gauge. I always purchase the grade 8 bolts for the parts that get hot, as the softer bolts like a grade 5 or less will stretch when they get hot.

5/16-18 studs for the exhaust manifold. I use grade 8 studs and nuts. They are readily available at parts stores and well-stocked hardware stores.

 

Thank u very much. The guys at the parts store couldn't find any info anywhere & gave me a couple to try & said I should just pull one & bring it up there to get the right one's. I just don't want to be pulling bolts & driving it. That might be ok but doesn't sound like it to me. I really appreciate the help. I really do like df!🙂
