Default Cruise Control RPM Jump

I have a 2001 Ram 1500 with the 5.9L. I’ve noticed lately when I put my cruise control on around 65 to 70 mph the rpm will be around 1800-2000 which is normal but if I’m going 70 and will the rpm’s jump to 2200 for a spilt second then come back down. Any ideas?

Does it do the same thing when cruising while NOT using the cruise control? If so, change the throttle position sensor. Mine would drop in/out of lockup if I merely looked harshly at the gas pedal......

I bet it does. Find a nice long straight stretch of road. Doesn't matter if it's a bit hilly. Try and hold a constant 55 mph. See if it does the dance.

Then it's likely in the cruise switches.

TPS is the most likely cause. Cheap easy fix. I thought I had a cruse control problem on mine for exact symptom. Changed the TPS and its solid now.
