Default 98 1500 4x4 5.2 trans slip

Got a quad cab that the trans is acting up in. Purchased it about a year ago. Got around to getting it on the road. The guy who sold me the truck had about $1000 of work put into the trans a little less than a year before selling it to me. He had new gov pressure solenoids, output speed sensor, and more electronics in the trans replaced. Ill post a pic of the bill from the shop. It sat arounf for 6+ months before i got it to the shop and inspected. On the way back from the shop the trans started slipping really bad. I would have to baby it into gear. When the truck got warm the problem got worse. Ended up having to park it, get a ride home then tow it with my 3rd gen home. Will not go into reverse now just jerk when i select the reverse gear. Fluids are fine (spot on level, clean, no burnt smell) if cold and put into drive it will move. No grinding. Could some of the electronics be bad all ready? Like the gov pressure sil? Herd lots of issues with even oem replacements? Lots of great minds on this forum. This forum is why lots of my trucks still run.

maybe its the fluids they put in? 8qrts at $45 total. No way they they could have used full synthetic fluid at that price

Try unplugging the 8 pin connector on the drivers side of the trans. It's about halfway back, plugs straight down into the top of the valve body. (on the outside.) Go for a drive. You will have ZERO automatic function, no TCC, and no O/D, and it will set a selection of codes. So, shift manually, start in first, shift when appropriate. If it goes into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to, then it's just the electronics. If it still misbehaves, rebuild time.

Will give it a try. Had a friend tell me tro try the check valve in the cooler line. Said it could get clogged. Sound like a possibility?

Worth checking. I simply remove them when I buy a truck.

Great. Will keep posted on results. Nothing like trying to diagnose a problem over the web.

So i believe i found the connector. Was round and was 8pin. Took it out and took it for a spin. Did shift through the gears but a little slipping. Probably because i didnt baby it enough. Goes in reverse when i didnt before. But exhaust smells terrible. Looks a little over filled on tranny fluids. Should i be smelling what i smell? Should it be slipping going through gears?

This the one i pulled.afted parming the truck it would not go back into gear. Now that its fully warmed up. The trans lines are all ice cold from front to back. But the pan is greatly warmer bjt no hot enough that i cant keep my hands on it. Does this make a diff?

The only knowledge I can say on this matter is that is the right connector.
