Default Gear Shift Indicator

Today I bought my first truck, got a steal on it (hopefully) I bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 with only 64k miles for $900. The vehicle does have some issues but I think If I can get these issues fixed it’s a good deal. Here’s the issue that I want to fix first, but I do not know anything about fixing vehicles. The first thing is the gear shift indicator. I am not sure if it’s a LED light on this model or a needle. However my truck is completely missing this. Any advice? Thanks in advance

Can you post a picture? It should be in the lower right hand corner.

It's not LED and not really a needle, there is a red slider behind the holes underneath the lettering. Hard to tell because your picture was taken at night but it looks like there is a red marker below "P". If it doesn't move when shifting there is a short cable going to the shift lever that is either unhooked or broken.

Take a look ah the cable even give it a gentle pull and see if you see the indicator.

No problem! The plastic on the steering column needs to come off. And take the knee bolster off (piece below threw steering column). If you pull it (gently) and see the red indicator it is probably broke somewhere.
