Default Shifting into Drive

I am having an issue with my gear selector . I have a 98 1500 and when i put the truck into drive and hit the bottom of drive my truck acts like it is in neutral.
The shift indicator is lining up perfectly and every other gear it will go into fine. However if i tap the gear shifter on the top a few times it will kick into drive. Sometimes the truck will shut off when i do this but not often.
I will add that the fluid is full and the truck seems to shift fine once in gear.

Any help is appreciated

Probably just need to investigate the linkage. Bushings wear out, and throws the adjustment out of whack.
