Default PCM operational description

Does anyone know of a good manual or text document that describes the functions of the PCM for a '97 5.2. I encountered a manual like this when I had my 2000 Camaro SS. You could look up a code and it explained the process of exactly how the code was generated with a complete list of rules the PCM followed. Things like the running conditions that needed to be met, warm up time, and what actually is being monitored and how many drive cycles it took for the PCM to clear the code on its own. Having this made it possible to troubleshoot a problem that had baffled the dealership for more than a year and also allowed me to rule out other problems and not waste time. A lot of on-line code diagnostics are generic for OBD2 and different years of manufacture may have different diagnostic or monitoring methods performed by the PCM. Is there a publication or source for what I'm looking for for a 1997 RAM 1500 5.2?

Best bet would be the SET of factory repair manuals. They are available on ebay, but, run right about 300 bucks for the complete set, in decent condition.
