Default Cummins power loss

99 Ram 2500 with 5.9 Cummins suddenly lost power, slow to accelerate, changed fuel filter, cleaned and reoiled K&N filter. Seems to be running on all 6. Could it be T
turbo, no smoke and no excess play in turbo. Crack in exhaust manifold between 3 and 4 cyl. Could the problem be with the waste gate on turbo. Help

The reason you have no power (you already said it) is because it's a Cummins... all joking aside. It could as well be the turbo, without a turbo a diesel is useless. Waste gate SHOULDN'T cause that

Could be that your VP44 injection pump is failed/failing. Check the fuel pressure.

Oh, BTW, there are tons of diesels w/o turbo. They have their place, but engine built w/turbo is useless without one.

Default cummins power loss

Thanks for the reply, the fuel pump and the injector pump were replaced about three years ago, less than 3k miles since then.

How's the lift pump? When those go out, the injector pump is usually a casualty as well.

Very few nowadays. I see your point though. I am just not a fan of them

VP44 pump is a known bad point. Most go to the FASS system

the stock lift pump can sound/act as its running but not supply the vp44 with atleast the minimum psi of pressure...which i always have gone by 7-10 minimum. without that, the rotor inside heats up and cracks. and that sir, would give you low power problems.

as far as aftermarket quality lift pumps, fass is a good one. another quality pump is an airdog. but bare minimum on a 2nd gen cummins 98.5-02, fuel pressure is critical. i did 835hp/1693 trq in my 01, and ive missed it ever since! ha
