Speed sensor question
For my project using a 97 1500 2wd driveline, i am planning on using the speedometer driven gear in the transmission to drive a cable for my mechanical speedometer.
My question is; does the pcm use the speed reading for anything other than an output for the speedometer?
By removing the wiring all together will it cause driveablitly or running issues?
I cant have both the speed sensor plugged in and a cable hooked up so I need to know before I remove the wiring foe that plug altogether

Drivetrain is going in a 51 ratrod project I am finally getting back at. I did update my thread in the non/tech section and bring it back to the top.
Is the pcm getting goveenor speed from the speed sensor signal or the output speed shaft signal?
The rear axle also has the tone ring sensor in the rear axle. Is this going to be strictly for abs control on a 97?

Looking at the factory wiring it's got a hot feed into the sensor, (not sure if 5 or 12 volts) then its got the return signal. This part is only 2 wire

Yes, service manual says 5 volt signal and 8 pulse per revolution. I’m having a difficult time though finding a 3 wire, 8 pulse adapter. I’ll have to make a few calls tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Dakota digital does have a converter to convert the sine wave to square if i need it.

You don't happeb to know if the pcm is capable of reading both square waves AND sine waves do you? All 8 revolution adapters are sine wave outputs vs our factory ones which are square wave.
