Look around for a truck similar to yours that got rolled or T-boned. Get the front and rear ends out of it and the speed sensor for those gears. 3.9 would probably be your best bet, 4.10 is usually on heavier trucks with different wheel patterns.

 

Or get REALLY lucky, and find some Off Road Edition axles.

Did they make 3.92 in these second gen years? How can i tell what gear ratio the diff is if there isnt a tag on it? I see theres a few at the wreckers

 

Should be a tag under the hood listing gear ratios as well.

 

Yes, 3.9 ratios were options. Check the pumpkin for the little metal tab if it's still there. It is stamped with the ratio. Mine is stamped 3.5 and is on one of the cover bolts.

 

If the tag is gone off the rear end, you'll have to pull the cover. Although when I ran a salvage yard, we would mark the ratio when we pulled the rear. Look for paint marker numbers.

 

Oh that intresting . Ill have to keep my eye out on that. I wanna look around the wreckers soon. I dont want to swap to 3/4 ton axles if i dont have to. 3.9 would prob still be better then 3.55 which i have now.

 

Ya if everyone did that it would make life easier haha.

 

I always made sure old floor mats were laying around. If someone pulled a carburetor, they could throw the floor mat over the intake. Alas, most of the time someone would pull a part and leave the vehicle wide open. Good engine left to the elements when the hood was pulled.
