Default 4x2 engine/tranny swap to 4x4

I have a 1994 1500 LB 4x2 with a 5.2l/518 tranny that have less than 2000 miles on them... Truck was totaled in an accident.

I have a 1999 1500 extended cab SB 4x4 that has an old tranny in it and no engine... the engine it had was 5.9l

Can I take the 1994 engine and tranny and put them in the 1999?
If so, what modifications am I looking at?

Need the O/D unit off the 4x4 trans, in order to keep your 4x4. Either that, or rebuild the 4x4 trans. You can put the engine in directly, and it will run, just a bit rich while in open loop. You will want the intake from the 99 though, no egr on the newer truck. Can have the PCM flashed for the smaller motor eventually.

Thanks for the quick response.

I don't have the engine from the 99 to take the intake off of. Will this be a problem?

I'm not sure what "open loop" is?

Open loop is when the engine takes input from the O2 sensors

So having the PCM flashed should allow it to operate more efficiently?

Open loop is when the PCM is NOT paying attention to the O2 sensors.

having it flashed for the engine you have in there will make your life a lot easier, if there are any problems, and yes, it'll run better.

If you don't have the intake for the 99, may wanna wander on down to the junkyard, and score one. I got one for 25 bucks....... The newer designs flow better. (internal changes, looks the same outside.)
