Default 1997 1500 transmission/rear end type

I’ve got a 1997 Ram 1500 2wd with auto trans and 5.2 engine. I’m wondering what transmission and rear end it has, and how strong they are. I’ve mostly owned GM vehicles, so please bear with me while I’m learning.

46RE trans, and corporate 9.25 rear end.

The trans will last quite a while, if taken care of, the rear end rarely if ever fails, even when neglected. If you have the limited slip rear, they like to spit out the clutch retainers, and that can lead to some serious issues...... But, aside from that, life is good.

Pretty sure it’s limited slip. It’s running around 2600 rpm at 55 mph with the overdrive turned off, so I’m guessing 3.90 gears? It’s got the stock P245/75-16 sized tires.

Should be able to pull a build sheet, and that will tell you for sure whether it came with the LSD. Also tell you what gears it shipped with.

Thanks for the link, but it says not for vehicles built before 1998. Mines a 1997, so just missed it. I tried anyway, but it said no info on this VIN.
