46re questions
Hi all. I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9 and I believe the 46re transmission. I had the transmission rebuilt at 200k and have drove it 28k since rebuild. Driving home from a camping trip on the freeway I went to speed up to pass someone, the truck downshifted and would not upshift after letting off the gas. Now the transmission is slipping and the shifts are soft. Took it to aamco and they said the transmission is shot. I hope this isn't true. Any tips or help would be much appreciated.

They only drove it and looked at the fluid on the dipstick. I looked at the fluid on the stick and it wasn't dark. It hasn't thrown any codes. I think I'm gonna have to drop the pan myself and look inside. Doubt I'll be able to tell anything myself. Pretty disappointing considering I paid another shop 1900 for the full rebuild, only drove 28k on the road with no towing.

Try this first:
Crawl under the truck. Drivers side of the trans, about halfway back, there is an 8 pin connector the plugs straight down into the valve body section of the trans. Go for a drive. You will have zero automatic function, and no TCC or O/D, you will have to shift it like a manual trans, start in first, up/down shift as necessary, etc. Verify the trans goes into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to. If it works properly in that condition, you just need to replace electronics. (governor pressure sensor/solenoid) If it still exhibits undesirable behavior, time for a rebuild.
