Default Rough running woes

Hi All,

1995, RAM1500 SLT, 360, Auto, 2WD, 160K miles.

Recently had a bad miss at idle and it started bucking and jumping at anything under 2000-rpm when underway. I had to shift manually ("1" then "2" then "D") to keep the revs up as it would not move off in "D".

I stopped and got some weird (Contradictory + bad PCM) DTCs so figured it might be something else that was confusing the PCM. My first thought was the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CPS) so I replaced that. Wow what a struggle that was, anyway that solved the problem -- or so I thought.

It was it's perfect normal self for about a week. Driving home a few days back at 55-mph I got a string of very brief misses at about 10 seconds apart. After about 10 of those, it went away and all was good again.

Next day I drove for about 15 miles all good. Did some shopping then started and the miss at idle was back and the bucking and jumping under 2000-rpm too.

So, thoughts?
Is it a bad CPS?
Is it a bad PCM?

Thanks for the reply,

AUTEX from Amazon

Could oil do this? I may have a leaking main seal or front seal on the trans. There is never any oil on the ground and it stands for days at a time, but the old CPS came out with quite a coating of oil. I am assuming this is working in the bell-housing and not directly inside the engine. If it is inside the engine then clearly oil is not an issue.

I saw another brand SPECTRA PREMIUM, that mentioned testing with 24hours of salt spray, wondering if I should try that.

Thanks,

Been there done that. {grin} New cap, rotor, wires, Cam Position, EGR and Oxygen before the CPS.

The codes are no a help as they make no sense in combination.

Oil could cause it not to read but unlikely. These trucks only like Mopar sensors, the aftermarket fellers don't do too well

There is only one on my 1995 for the 160,000 miles we have owned it.

I can't find any online OEM Mopar parts seller that does not show it as the Camshaft Sensor plate in the distributor, labelled as the Crankshaft Sensor. They look to be all the same company or all using the same online Parts catalogue.

Anyone have a favorite other than the local Dodge Stealer who does not have a website for parts?

Thanks

Crank sensor and cam sensor (generally listed as Pick-up coil) are two separate issues. Crank sensor is in the bell housing, cam sensor is in the distributor.
