Default What is this sensor

Hey Guys, when taking off the intake last week when I pulled the motor, I broke the sensor behind the T-stat housing. Believe it's the temp sensor, but not 100% sure. There is also a sensor to the left of the T-stat housing if looking at the engine from the front also, not sure what this sensor is also. I've circled both. thanks..

Yep, those are both temp sensors. The one by the heater outlet should be a one-wire sensor, that one is for the gauge in the dash. The one by the thermostat should be a two-wire sensor, and that one is for the PCM.

HeyYou, now more confused based on the parts listed at RockAuto, some are for w/ light or gauge. Nothing distinguishing one wire or two? Do you have a part# for the one that is broken in the above pic so that I order the right one, can't find them in the parts manual either.

Do you have a temp gauge? If so get the one for the gauge

Looks to me like the one for the PCM is trashed...... That really needs to be replaced.

guys, that doesn't help me much, yes the one behind the t-stat is destroyed, I did that trying to get the darned connector off and just broke it. Rock Auto lists all w/ gauges, but you say there is also a temp sensor to the left of it also. They are in fact two different sensors w/ different connectors. I want to replace both, but both ARE NOT listed on rockauto, do you have the MOPAR part numbers for both that I need, I can't find them in the Dodge Parts Manual.. thanks..

On RockAuto this is what I see for your 1997 5.9 :

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS TS271 for the gauge

STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS TX71 for the PCM

These are under the standard replacement parts
