Hey ya'll!!!!! New to this, so I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.9l. Will be doing the plenum repair this weekend, thanks to all of you for all the posts regarding this, will post how I made it, super cool site folks!!!!!
So the gasket was in good shape actually but ALL the bolts on the right side were crazy loose!!! 3 were only in by a few threads!my pops dabbed up a slick plate, the 1/4 inch aluminum was 26 bucks, took him a hour. No broken bolts, no issues whatsoever, replaced entire ignition, PVC,waterpump, I got the complete gasket set from napa, was 76,bucks, came with hose bolts everything, totally cost for parts including a nice set of msd 8.5mm wires, oil, filter, air filter, water pump, gasket kit, sealant, cap, rotor, coil, pvc valve, antifreeze, throttle body cleaner, brake clean, and a partridge in a pear tree was 498.35. Oh and that also included a fuel line disconnect tool kit as well, so so happy I read so many post on this site, was a snap so far, probably done in 2 hours or so.i took a video to show ya'll how loose the bolts were but it wont allow me to upload.
Thanks again y'all 🤠 The new plate.
Generally the bolts are too long and bottom out before applying proper pressure to make gasket do its job. Most just cut down the original bolts and reuse them. If you got new bolts, make sure they can do the job w/o bottoming out.
Well it's all done!!!!! Went very well, to respond about lock tite and washers, yes used loctite blue on all intake and plenum bolts, as of now no leaks, I tell ya she's like a whole different truck!!! Seems to pull a lot harder and absolutely no hesitation, smooth idle and pulls hills like it should, again thank you all so much for all the threads, cheers!
