5.9l V8 vs. Hemi
I was just wondering how the 5.9l Magnum compares with the Hemi Magnums as far as power goes.
I have a 2000 Ram Quad Sport 4X4 with the 5.9 V8 and want to know if I am missing out power wise.

pretty impressive that you can keep up with the hemis .. off the line they got like 330 to 350.. i think its the only engine in its class that actually is close or above the CID to HP ratio...witch they used to do back in the musclecar days... and totally disrespected that oath of engine building when they built our trucks... stupid ******!!!!!!!!!!! sorry.. didnt mean it... i have teretts
its the weight that kills their 0-60 times, if they were putting that motor in the dak, throw sum upgrades and drag it phew would u be in for a run
i think he is 1000+ heavier than i am, i dont think i could beat him in 1/4 mile but i might be able to keep up close to him

Is there that big of a big power difference between the Hemi and the 5.9 Magnum? I do like the power I get from my 5.9 and I use it for towing...I just wasn't sure if the Hemi was like comparing apples to oranges...
I am sure there is a big difference between the Hemi and the 5.2 but just wasn't sure about how the 5.9 compared.

I was thinking about a hemi so I talked my dad into renting one for a day just so we could do some comparison. The hemi is fast but in my opinion it isn't good for towing. We hooked my uncles boat up to it and towed it to the landing and put it in the water. Later that day when we were ready to yank it out the hemi had trouble and we ended up having to hook my 5.2 up to it to yank it out. So in my opinion if your looking for mor of a sport truck that is fast the hemi is great but if you are looking for a work truck and something to tow with stick with the magnum or the cummins.

There is a pretty good difference in power. 5.9=245hp HEMI5.7=345hp. I have a 2001 dodge ram 2wd reg cab with a 5.9l and I can Honestly say that i can hang with a hemi until 3rd gear. I think its because of the wieght but I'm not sure. I love both engines. The 360 has the old school engine feel. The kind you know is running cause of the vibrations. The newer Dodge and Chevy engines both run quieter and idle quieter too. I'm trying to sell my truck now and I'm looking at either getting a 4wd 2nd gen dodge or a 3rd gen Hemi. I decided not to go with chevy because my heart belongs to Dodge.
Well I'll be damned Magic...That's exactly what I was wondering. I don't care too much about the speed...it's a truck. I got rid of my Chevy Silverado with the 5.0l V8 because it had trouble towing my boat out of steep ramps at low tide and trying to keep up with everyone on the highway under a load and went with the 5.9l Magnum Dodge. I wasn't sure if the Hemi had more power or if it was just a speed thing.
