Damn how much money did he have to put into that thing?

Don't dispair, its not all doom and gloom
, you can build a 5.9 to some pretty impressive #s. Buddy's na 408 puts down 401hp/457 lb ft of torque to the wheels. (535hp/612lb ft @ flywheel)

There are quite a few shops on the net that can custom build a 5.9 to 390 + HP, computer compatible, ya just have to be willing to pay for it. The way im looking at it, If your truck is paid for and your motor goes, and the truck is still in great shape, its cheaper to put another motor in it than going out and financing a new truck.
bottom line though is it all comes down to the power to weight ratio and gearing... someone posted that the hemi vs his truck was about 1000 lbs heavier so the performance is hurt because of the weight. I'm sure if I took my 360 and dumped it into the Dak it would scream since the dak is about 1500 lbs lighter than the ram.
Identically equiped Daks and Rams (genII/genIIIs) with 5.9s/5.7s are much closer in wt than you think.
Dak RT 5.9 R/C S/B 4x2 are 3900lbs (approx)
genII Ram 5.9 R/C S/B 4x2 are 4400lbs (approx)
genIII Ram 5.7 R/C S/B 4x2 are 4600lbs (approx)
Option levels will affect those #s as well as adding things like toolchests, big stereos, f/g tonneaus and changing rim dia/tire width.
Something else that helps level performance is the drag coeff of the genIIIs is about 20% higher than the genIIs.
GenIII Ram has a dc of .52
GenII Ram has a dc of .44
Because of the dc differences it takes less hp to maintain the same mph with a 5.9 genII.

someone mentioned that the 5.9 QC 4x4 weighs in at around 5000 lbs. from the factory, any idea if that's close to being right?
why does that Dak R/T weigh so much? seems like the newer cars are weighing more, the little M3 weighs in at 3175 and it's way smaller than the R/C dak we have...
