Start the truck, keep it running, see what the volt gauge says.

No, but a simple volt/ohm meter will tell you if it is.

Here are the results, seems kinda sporadic

Checked the battery volts when it was off, 12.17
Turned it on (this time it didn't automatically die but sputtered for a sec after starting) shot up to 14 and held it there for a while, dropped to 8, shot up to 14, then .01, 12, 14
Turn it off, 12.17
Turned it on, this time it tried to instantly die after sputtering but kept chugging (rpm dropped to 0 then slowly went up to 800), 12.17, down to 11, 9, then up to 14. revved it a bit, let up, it died.
This time it smelled like i don't know what, fuel mixed with electrical smell?
