Dented Tailgate
Atleast you got the better looking body before Ford went with the catfish looking front end on the newer mustang. My wife inherited her father's 07 gt500 when he past away, I put on what parts he had sitting around for it. Basically just an exhaust from kooks. 1 5/8" long tube ss headers with a full 3" ss mandrel bent exhaust. And k&n CA intake. He had a dream of getting it to run 200 mph and we were gonna full fill his dream but no drag strip or high speed track will let us do it with out full roll cage and the wife doesn't and won't butcher the interior of the car to install a full roll cage, with seats and 5 point harness, and I don't blame her the car is beyond any money amount, and holds allot of sentimental value. We got it 4 years ago with 11,000 on the clock. It just broke 20,000. Sits in the garage mostly use it to run errands, shopping, or going out to eat occasionally on weekends. It's fun to drive, the supercharger never gets old. But I'm not much into the new so called muscle cars, seems like Everytime you turn around somebody has one. Camaro, mustang, Challenger, charger. Why I'm building up a 1st Gen ram. Not many around. But I would love to get my hands on an old muscle car pre 75. I'd like to get another 68 fury. Had one in high school 2003ish. Best car I ever owned, only had a 318 stock 2 barrel but still ran 120 mph flat out. Body and frame were bad, so I pulled the 318/727 and put it in a 92 4x4 Dakota converted to 2 wheel drive, had it running and moving just needed some pig tails for the tail lights and an exhaust and would have been ready to go. Sold it when we decided to say adios to NY.
if you really want to wake up the GT500 give it a pulley change, CAI TB and a tune. for $6-700 you can easily add 200rwhp safely without worrying about hurting the motor. for a few more $$$ add a 1st gen TVS or a trinity blower from a 13-14 GT500 for about $1k more and you will can add another 100 or so hp. if you go bigger you will be dancing on the safe power adding safety line.
with the first listed mods you might do 10's on slicks. if your track follows the upgraded rules on modern cars. you don't need a cage or roll bar to run 10's. if you go faster than i think 130 or 10's then you need more safety parts. the second mod you should be able to hit 10's.
i like the modern muscle.they are mostly hop in and drive. i like that you can have a clark kent/ superman personality. want to go faster, add a superman race tune with the programmer, go fast at the strip. once you are done for the day load you clark kent driver tune and drive home.
the old cars look cool but after getting old and being a autobody frame tech for 30+ years i like the sturdy construction of a newer car.
i wouldn't mind a 1st gen ram, or in my opinion even better a 1st gen dakota. upgrade the drive train to 3rd gen hemi and you have my ideal truck.
i also hate the newer mustang looks. i will own the 08 for a long time.

not on pump 93 octane you can't.
if you did it won't be daily driver quality, and it would be a massive gas hog. you would be lucky to get 10 on the highway with a OD trans. i get 20+ in my mustang on the freeway. i also know several GT500 owners making 1000+ on pump 93 and they get 15+ on the highway.

I was gonna do 2nd gen SC swap, tune but the wife likes it as is, it's her car, that's why I bought my muscle truck lol. I'm more into trucks anyways, nothing hurts these ricers feelings more than getting smoked by a 4,000 lb truck lol. I would really like to to go back to a Dakota, 87 to 89 and do a hellcat implant.
that's cool. happy wife = happy life.
there used to be a tech at where i work who had a 2008, i think, chevy duramax deisel 4X4 truck that ran low 11's
if you did all of the assembly yourself, got some good deals on parts, wired up yourself a mega squirt multipoint injection fuel system, and got a deal on a OD trans or built yourself one i am sure you could do it pretty easily.
the point i was trying to make is those S197 mustangs are really cheap and easy to go fast on a budget. with a hemi it's not so cheap or easy.
I've always wanted a Dakota with a V8, the only thing close was the 89 Shelby. Regular cab, short bed, 2wd. I didn't want the 318 though, a blown 440 would suffice, but now with the hellcat, and demon, and now the 426 helliphant that will always be a dream $30,000 just for the engine, you can buy a gt500 for that lol. But getting everything from a wrecked hellcat, it's doable in the first gen Dakota. It's been done in the 2nd gen Dakota. Might be my next build after I'm done with my first gen ram build........... If I ever finish lol.
i am not saying it can't be done. i was saying it cost $$$ to make that level of power with daily driver run ability. or some serious skills, connections, or usually a combination of both that most people don't have.

Diesels ain't no joke now a days, but expensive to build and tune. I can get 20+ with the 07 gt500 if............IF I keep it out of the SC, lol very hard to do the sound and the feeling of it pushing you into the seat.....I broke the rears loose at 55 going from 4th to 2nd........ It's like my Vmax on 4 wheels, lol. I'll get on American muscle and find all kinds of stuff for it, the SC upgrade, pulleys, all the blacked out lights, interior upgrades, suspension upgrades, wheels, tires and all I get are looks lol, not looks to kill but looks like "yeah ok it'll never happen". But it's still fun lol. And the things she tells me when she drives it lol. Especially to the dodge dealer to get parts for her nitro, or one of my trucks. She had a sales man ask her if she knew what she was driving, she said yeah I know what it is, it's an errand car. And he went on about the specs. And she just told him it wasn't completely stock, and went on her way. She said he just looked at her, lol. She's not your average woman, she doesn't know allot but she knows what I've done to it, lol. She isn't afraid to climb under it with me and learn, and help. She helped me put the headers and exhaust on. And helped me do the clutch a few months ago, and the bonus, she ain't afraid to drive it. I drive it rather conservatively, as I know what the car means to her, she told me she would kill me if anything happened to it....... She wouldn't kill me, but I know life wouldn't be very fun, lol.
