I have a 2001 ram 5.2L and it was originally a auto and someone changed it over to a 5 speed manual, how can I tell what kind of transmission I have? Also the t case is a new process 231D how much oil and what kind if oil does the t case take? Also the rear seal for the driveshaft is leaking is that hard to replace?
T-case uses ATF +4, just like the trans. Two or three quarts, I think.... There is a fill plug, and a drain plug. Take out the fill plug FIRST, to make sure you CAN get it out. Then drain the case.
Trans is most likely an NV3500. Take a look under the truck, if the bellhousing/trans is a one piece casting, NV3500.
The tcase takes a little over a quart of atf. You'll need two and a good spout. It doesn't have to be +4. If the trans looks like a waffle with cooling fins all over, it's the nv3500. Also, it's aluminum.

so the t case only takes a bit more then 1 quart? That's not very much is it! And I believe the trans is a nv3500 then it is aluminium and has the ribs built in it! In this pictures is the bottom plug the drain and the middle plug the fill? Also what about that rear seal? Is that a big deal or just let it leak? Thanks alot guys!

Correct on the plugs. Fill the case till it starts running out the fill hole a bit.
Rear seal is easy, drop the driveshaft, pull the old one, install the new one, put the shaft back in. (be sure to lube the seal and shaft before installation, otherwise, it will just burn up right quick.)

You'll want one of these also. The snap ring on the output shaft has a tendency to bust or pop out of the groove. If the shaft slides forward, you'll grenade the transfer case. You'll already have the tail shaft housing off.
