Default 3rd gen Ram rims swap to 2nd gen Ram help

I tried using the search feature and it excludes keywords that are vital to gettin good search results. So if anyone can help point me to a previous thread or provide hell I’d greatly appreciate it.

I have a 1997 Ram 2x4. I bought some 3rd gen Ram rims and I thought they’d fit but the studs are too short. Also the dust cover sticks out too far.

I saw the picture that I’ve attached here and figured they’d fit because they obviously did for that person, but no luck.

I’m pretty sure if I get a 1”-1.5” wheel spacer it will solve both issues. Just wanted to know if anyone here had any perspective on it?

I hate wheel spacers. They do all sorts of rude things to steering/suspension geometry.

That said, I think the major issue is the hubs on the truck are larger than the openings for them in the wheels, so, one or the other needs to be modified to fit.

Thanks for the tip, I think I will take my rim off and see what I can figure out. It is 30 degrees and raining today so I stopped at a little tire shop to have them put it on. So I had to go off what they said. It didn’t seem to make a lot of sense as the newer rims don’t seem a lot thicker than the ones on the truck. I bet you’re right and that dust cap/hub is just too big.

Hey Ramparts, I run third gen rims 285/55/R20 on my 2001. Curious what you think of the power/driveability using the 33in tires? I own a 2001 dodge ram 1500 5.2L 4wd 3.55 gears truck.

The rims are of a 2007 sxt 1500 ram. They were cheap.

Well I went the easy route for now and got some hub centric spacers. The 3rd gen rims hooked right up without issue. Haven’t noticed any negatives as far as the ride goes. Tires are 275/60/20. I measured from the ground and they sit right about 32.5” tall.

Nice looking truck. Those 3rd gen wheels look pretty decent on your truck. I'm not running any spacers on my truck. My tires fit ok, kinda makes the truck look like I have a lift installed. There about 1in taller than the 16in tires the truck came stock. The tires are off my 2014 GMC sierra work truck

They fit on 4x4 2nd gens without issue. On 2x4 2nd gens the hub bore is way too big for the back of the rim. Not only too big around but it protrudes out too far as well. Just another reason I wish I had a 4x4. 😂

Next thing to knock out is getting a 4th gen front bumper and the mounting brackets and getting it put on. She looks a little wild without a bumper. 😣
