46RE interchange

Default 46RE interchange

I have a 96 ram 1500 318 with 2 wheel drive. Will a 46RE from a 2001 interchange.

Yes and no. The trans will bolt right up, the problem is, it won't have the provision for the vehicle speed sensor in the tailshaft, the internal electronics are also not compatible with the 96 PCM. For a direct swap, you need a trans from a 96 or 97 2wd truck, with a V-8. VSS went away in 98.... You *might* be able to swap your tailshaft onto the replacement trans, but, I don't know if the output shaft on the newer trans will even have provisions for the VSS drive gear... and if you are going to go so far as to swap output shafts, you might just as well rebuild the trans.... as that shaft is the last part to come out.

Thanks for the info. May just spend 1500 for a rebuild. Didn't pay but 1200 2 years ago.
