Default 97 ram still overheating

Hello all, I’ve flushed my coolant system and replaced the thermostat but I’m still overheating. What else could I check? My radiator has a tiny leak and I’m going to replace it, but my coolant levels are still good. I’m stumped, and not the most knowledgeable guy when it comes to auto repair.

Air trapped in the system, bad water pump, or a bad thermostat

i tried getting the air out, but see no air bubbles. I don’t think it’s the thermostat since I installed a brand new one. How can I tell if the water pump is bad? If it’s good it would still spin the fan right?

Just because it's new doesn't mean it is good. Stant (non fail safe) is the only been thermostat I trust and even had a few bad ones out of the box. The water pump find could be rusted away on the inside. Usually though you will start to get a leak at the bottom of the pump. These trucks are sometimes hard to get the air out. Park the truck uphill with the front being up hill

Sometimes past experiences just come to mind, not always at the right time lol. If it is, It probably wont help the radiator leak

Not sometimes always. If your t stat doesn't have the air bleeder valve(most don't) you need to drill a small hole in the body of it. This will cure the problem forever. Look at post #14

I never had a problem with air and didn't start drilling the hole until last year. But I never drained the whole system lol

I first encountered this back in the day with the LA motors, Been doing it ever since. I believe all the t stat manufactures should put them in. It would solve a lot of headaches.
