Default Won't shift down into first while in drive and sometimes won't go into overdrive

Hi guys,

I just bought a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500, with the 5.9 360 last month, and it's a great truck, but I've noticed that when I come to a stop, it won't go down into first most of the time. So when I take off, it takes a bit to get up to speed because it's in second. And when I was in my co-worker's driveway last night, I was turning around on a small hill and it wouldn't go up it very easily because it just wanted to stay in a higher gear, so I had to stop and put the gear selector itself into first gear. It's more of an inconvenience than anything. Also, overdrive tends to not kick in once in a while, and I try hitting the on off switch to see if that changes anything and it doesn't, so I end up putting it in neutral and then back into drive, and it does it just fine.

Thanks in advance

You are what they call in "Limp Mode" the check engine light on?

You'll be able to read data that will help Nettie down what it could be. The only time (that I know of) it goes into limp mode is an electronic issue.
