Default Transmission Question, 97 2500 V10

I have a 1997 2500 (8,800 GVW) with the 8.0L V10 that I'm planning on taking on a 1600 mile trip pulling a 6,000 pound travel trailer with. My the truck is cold you have to give it quite a bit of throttle to get it going and then let off of it slightly to get it to shift into second. Once the truck has warmed up it shifts just fine and hos no issues. Anybody know of any likely causes for this. Also. is this likely to cause me to end up stranded on the side of the road somewhere if not addressed quickly? Thanks for any assistance.

Change the governor pressure sensor and solenoid, filter, and adjust the bands. Also replace the output speed sensor on the outside of the trans. (change your fluid too, not like you get any choice in the matter.... ) Should solve your problems.
