Hey just picked up a 95 dodge v10 4x4 3500 club cab. Truck has 110k and two owner. Guy I bought it off took it in on trade. Truck is in beautiful shape for age. Unfortunately the truck has a little tick that I wasn’t worried much about. I made the mistake of reading into it and now I feel like there could be a million things it could be. I did an oil change with 10w-40 after reading that may help. It didn’t. I am planning on doing plugs and wires this weekend after I read that it could be spark knock? I’m really hoping it doesn’t need a motor or a rebuild but not worried about it if it does. I picked the truck up for $3500
Also truck is verified two owner. Original owner bought new in 95 and only towed to Florida in winter season. Truck has always been serviced and taken well care of. He just traded it in last month.
What kind of tick are you hearing, and when do you hear it? Is it better/worse under any particular conditions? I know mine has some interesting valve rattle, but, it hasn't gotten better or worse in the three years I have owned it......
It’s not as loud when it cold starts for some reason maybe it’s always the same but I wouldn’t say it ever gets worse. Noticed my harmonic balancer has a decent wobble to it. Would that cause anything?
Just ordered harmonic balancer and pulley along with all new pulleys, tensioner, and belt. Also ordered a thermostat housing gasket but had trouble finding the housing itself. Noticed a little coolant down in the pocket of the block by the housing. Looks to be plastic my thoughts are it might be slightly warped

Dropping the truck off at a local shop tomorrow. I think I have it narrowed down to valvetrain. He’s gonna pull the valve covers and check out the rockers if everything looks ok prob leaning towards a worn camshaft. Hoping to not be into it for to much money but with a 3 week old son and a busy *** work schedule can’t tackle this right now myself. Honestly can’t afford to have my truck down at all but better than weeks if I had to do it in my free time
So here's an idea. Start the truck, let it get up to temp. If u here the tapping go over to the passenger side valve cover while the truck is running and stick a finger on top of your egr valve. If you feel the tapping then there's your problem. I literally just went through this with mine and it was driving me nuts. I thought I had a loose rocker arm, bad tensioner, all kinds of stuff, swapped out the egr valve when I felt the ball rattling around in it. 5 bucks for a brand new one and that tick/tapping went away. And like yours it didn't really do it when cold but once it got warm and the idler dropped down that's when it would pop up
