Starter won’t line up right
The ones you access by removing the lower cover are the torque converter to flex plate. It's hard to say at a distance, but I suspect you may have something warped or misaligned. What I would do, besides rolling through a crowd of police officers on a Segway and wearing a viking helmet and nothing else, is remove the lower cover and let the engine idle. First off see if the noise goes away. You may just have a bent cover. Otherwise, watch the flexplate for a wobble.
Hmmm....did I mention a Segway?
I've been a bit too normal lately.

the sound clearly sounds like the pinon gear in the starter hitting the teeth. I’ll take the dust plate off tommorow before I try a new starter and shims.
