Hey dodge fam I've got a 2000 dodge 5.9L gas job that is loosing battery charge according to the dummy gauge while driving and if I shut the truck off and start it back up it charges again according to the gauge sometimes it'll do it several times and then next time it won't do it at all please help it's driving me nuts thing's I have done are clean and checked all relays and fuses in the engine bay box as well as the alternator and battery connection's.
Voltage regulator is in the PCM. Get the alternator tested OFF the truck, see what it does, if it passes, you get two choices, replace the PCM, or install an external regulator.
If the brushes are worn down it still may work when removed and tested. Need to take it apart to look how bad the brushes are. Brushes need to make contact with the slip rings.

thanks I'll check it out and so what you're saying is when the engine has higher rpms the brushes loose contact?
Quick way to check for worn brushes; engine running and no charge situation, hit the alternator with the rubber mallet or piece of 2x4 or something. Worn brushes make contact and alternator starts to charge.
