Default Oil pressure.

On the 2001 1500 where would I be able to In stall on the motor my own oil pressure gauge or is there a mechanic's connection I could use so I dont have to rely on my Instrument cluster?

At the back of the motor, there is a port that has your oil pressure sending unit threaded into it with an electrical wire connected to it for the factory gauge in the dash. You can remove the sending unit and thread in a mechanical oil pressure gauge fitting (I believe it's 1/8" pipe thread). You can also install a brass T-fitting that would allow you to install both a mechanical gauge connection and the factory oil sending unit for the factory gauge in the dash.

Why do you want a mechanical gauge?

the reason I would like to try a mechanical gauge is because every time I come to a stop or a slow idle while rolling the gauge on the dash drops to nothing but while I'm at speed 60 km an hour or 100 km an hour it shows 275 oil pressure

I'm new at this so where would the oil sending unit be located? But with that said would you or someone els know where I would be able to connect to the motor to do an oil pressure test, somewhere I could put a psi gage.

Oil pressure sensor is on the back of the engine, just to the passenger side of the distributor. Yep, its real fun to get to....... You could screw a mechanical gauge into that port for testing, just to verify that your pressure is good, then drop in the new sensor, and hook the gauge back up. I am not aware of any other easy pressure ports on the engine.

So if I get a good steady pressure reading form that port that means either the oil pressure sensor is bad or the gauge in my dash is bad, right.
