Default 1999 2500 - ticking

1999 2500, 360 gas. 172k miles
Recently started a ticking type noise that I hear from what sounds like behind the dash (from the engine compartment) when on the throttle. At idle and with limited foot in the throttle I don’t hear it. In neutral (stick) and revving, I don’t hear it either. Giving it gas in 2nd, 3rd, etc, it’s there. Noise goes with the rpm but not when I downshift. Goes away when cruising.
oil level and pressure are both good. Oil is clean.

Thoughts on exhaust leak, rod bearings, lifters?

Could be any of the above. Could also be spark knock. Can you post an audio clip?

Screwed around with it tonight, moved some wires around, etc... and actually got a p0201 code to pop up. Disconnected and reconnected injector #1 and reset. Code went away.
Can an injector be that loud when beginning to fail? It almost makes some sense based on the symptoms I’m having.

I wouldn't think it would be that loud that you would be able to hear it while driving........

Me either but I can’t figure anything else out. I have a new injector in one of the tool boxes here. I may throw it in #1 tomorrow and see what happens.
I really only hear it when giving it gas so this does make some sense.

Injectors are pulse-width modulated. So, to inject more fuel, it is simply held open longer, not opened any further. It should make the same amount of noise, regardless of rpm, it just ticks faster the higher the rpm.

Does the noise sound like marbles in a tin can?

Not quite marbles in a tin can. I took a sample sound of it today when shifting from 2-3-4 and gave it some decent gas while doing so.
did it using voice notes and it’s an mp4 so I can’t post it here.

Host it on youtube, or dropbox, or something, then just link it here.

It does tick faster with rpm. Not any louder. It’s just dead quite until I give it gas. Idles with regular valve train noise.
