Default Compatible 5th wheel hitches

Hi all!

i have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.2 4x4

im looking for 5th wheel hitches and having trouble figuring out which ones will actually fit my truck. I’m aware of universal ones that supposedly fit mine and similar models but I would like to find one that’s at least sort of designed for my truck...

does anyone have any input?

Nobody puts a 5th wheel on a 1500 as they are just too much weight (usually) for a 1/2 ton. Best bet is use etrailer website

its just to move an empty trailer for my parents which only weights 2,000lbs I’ve towed 4,000lbs from the ball hitch a couple times and had no problems. Hard for me to believe 2k lbs would be too heavy. But then again I don’t know much about 5th wheels.

2K isn't heavy at all. My 5th wheel loaded is around 16K which is way to heavy for a 1500. Check etrailer they carry a lot for towing

How far do you have to move it? You are welcome! I go to them for any of my towing needs, they even built me a custom plug and play harness for my 86 to get a 7 pin plug

lol I wish there was a kit to convert a 5th wheel to a ball hitch. I’ve seen some options for that in the past but I don’t think any of those ever lasted the test of time.

If you are only going to use it once, see if you can rent a truck that has the hitch in it. U-Haul might have something......
