AC compressor oil amount?
I got a new AC compressor and cannot find anywhere the oil capacity for it in my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.9 engine. The manual shows total system capacity, but when it comes to the compressor it says to measure the amount drained out of the compressor, well too late for that as it is in a core return bin at the parts store. Any suggestions where to find the info or what the correct capacity is?
Thank you!
Thank you!
I think there is a table/chart in the factory service manual for just such an occasion. If you don't have one yet, download one from here.
Honestly when it comes to AC systems your best bet is to take it to a shop that has an AC machine have them completely evacuate the system tell them you put on a new compressor and didn’t oil it and let them take care of it so it will be properly lubed and charged by weight. I always just did my own AC work and didn’t bother vacuuming the system but looking back on it I’ve had several problems that could have been avoided if I just let someone do it the right way.
Thanks guys.
I drained the oil from the compressor and found that it is close to 1.5 ounces, that adds up from the the manual being 6.2 total less volumes in other components. I'm getting it set so my son can hook up his evac system to get it done.
