Zero oil pressure at stop when hot
Recently my 98 2500 5.9 12v started showing zero oil pressure and the check gauges light would come on and chime when hot at a stop, then go back to normal when taking off. First thought was sending unit, replaced and it continued. Hooked a manual gauge up and found that I had good oil pressure even when the dash gauge and light said that I didn't.
Found TSB 08-22-99 that describes the symptoms perfectly. It says that the solution involves "selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module with new software (calibration changes).
Took it to my local Dodge Dealer because was told that ONLY the dealer could perform this. After diagnosis and trying to download the fix, the dealer was unable to complete the process. They called Chrysler for help. They told me it was safe to drive the truck.
After two weeks, Chrysler called back and said that due to "Firewall" at our local dealership, the process is not able to complete.
Has anyone else had this issue, and what was your solution?
Can the factory sending unit be bypassed? Or will unplugging it cause the Check Gauges light and chime to sound all the time?
Thank you

Erm, their firewall is blocking a software update? That seems really stupid to me. Updating software is a pretty significant chunk of their business. That sounds to me like just an excuse, that bears no real resemblance to what is actually happening..... If they can't do updates, then the dealer needs to address that.
If you put an aftermarket sensor in there, I think I would swap it out, again....

Careful, googling the TSB suggests that "calibration change" is code for making it a glorified idiot light. The did the same with the Wrangler 4.0 a little later. Might want to try another sensor first.
As for the dealership failing with the SW update, keep in mind the TSB is 20 years old and a lot has changed in Internet connectivity and security since. I've seen newer SW from the mid 2000s fail miserably because it used outdated communication protocols that don't work across modern firewalls.
