Can I put a 94 Magnum 5.9 in a 97 truck?
I am assuming yes, but it will not be plug and play. I know the injectors have a different part number from the initial research I have done. I intend to swap the intake and the valve covers from the 5.9 in my 97. What else would need to be done?
Intake and exhaust manifolds are different, pretty much everything else is the same. Use your original intake, and everything on it, along with your exhaust manifolds, and it will drop right in, and work.
I think the only differences on the valve covers, was which side of the engine the PCV valve went on...... and that even varied over the years.

If the swap is between 2 and 4 wheel drive trucks, check the oil pans. The front axle may not clear the sump on a 2wd engine. Just swap the oil pan and pick up tube if they're different.
You'll need the intake and sensors for the '97 on the '94 engine. Same with exhaust manifolds. You also want to use the flex plate for the '97 on the '94 as sometimes, for some reason, Ma Mopar has used two different sized plates. The one time I didn't check, it bit me on the bottom. Shoot a small spot of spray paint on the plate and converter before you pull the engine to make reinstallation easier. Otherwise, it's about as straight forward a swap as you'll find.
Ah, yes, Grouch brings up a good point. The 5.9 is externally balanced, and early engines (95 and older) used weights on the torque converter for balancing. On 96 and up truck, they moved the weights to the flexplate, and the converter was neutral balance.
