You used a punch to drive the rear bearing towards the front of the block without taking the rear plug out? I would like to have one of those punches, that would come in handy in several situations.
Yeah it's long so I put it in the oil drain hole in the bottom and hit it. Which cause it to pivot, then I stuck the punch down through the top and through the bearing and it popped right out
Or, you could get shorter bolts, (or even just washers.....) and a GOOD quality gasket, and just put a new gasket in it. The aluminum plate is *better*, but, isn't absolutely required.
