Truck is a 2000 ram 1500 360 gas, it goes 1-2-3 perfectly, then "4th" feels fine, then "5th" bangs into gear sometimes, seems to get worse when trans is up to temp. I cant find anything anywhere about this. Im pretty sure these trucks go 1-2-3-3tc-od tc or maybe its 1-2-3-od-od tc i think it changed in 2000 if im not mistaken. Anyone have a clue what is going on? Truck only has 120k.

 

Your truck is a 4spd so no 5th gear. I think it is 1-2-TC-3-OD(4)

If it's banging into overdrive, I might be tempted to yank the O/D unit, and have it rebuilt.....

 

There are 4 shifts, as in 5 "gears". I know its a 3 speed with od unit. the shift pattern im pretty sure is 1-2-3-3 tc lock- overdrive tc lock, so 5 "gears" i have to say gears because there is nothing else to call it.

 

That's 4 plus lock up(witch is not a "gear") and the rpm will only drop around 200 rpm's. Have you tried turning the od off/shifting manually? Lock up will engage in third if the od is off.
