Question 2001 ram stalling irregularly

My 2001 ram 1500 5.2l has been killing at random intervals almost as if it was overheating, but there the temperature gauge shows it isn't even at the half way point. i also changed the radiator cap, coolant temperature sensor, and the thermostat just in case. when it kills it says "no bus", but after sitting a while it will start right back up. when sitting it will crank but not start. i'm at the point i think its either a haunting, a curse, or the computer. I also threw some new parts at the issue, apparently for no reason. also also i can not get my scanner to show any codes.

i have already changed the...
- coolant temp sensor
- radiator cap
- thermostat
- flushed coolant system
- changed spark plugs and wires
- crankshaft sensor and cam shaft sensor (called something else but everyone seems to call it the cam sensor) - pickup
- ignition coil
- distributor and rotor
- fuel pump module
- throttle position sensor
- idle air control valve
- 3 of the sensor on throttle body forgot name of third one

anyone have a clue what i can do other then bring it to a shop? everything is closed around me because of corona. thanks

No bus means it's losing communication between the computers. You either have a wiring issue, sensor grounding out, or your computer is bad.

Given everything that has been replaced...... I would go for the PCM next......

Quick test.... grab a bag of ice, throw it in a cooler, stick it in the bed of the truck. Go for a drive, get it to die. Break out with the bag of ice, and put it on the PCM. Leave it there for a few minutes. See if the truck will start.....

For you, you would need a PCM from a 2000/2001 with the same engine trans, and it would need to be flashed to the correct vin, to keep ABS and SRS systems happy. Presence of the factory security system is likely an issue as well......

Might want to try moving the wires/terminals on the pcm when it happens also. If you use the search feature you will find plenty of post's on the no buss issue.

i'm still having same issue with the truck stalling out. i brought a new computer from solopcm's it drove without problem for two weeks then had same problem. after trying to just swap out old and new computer every time i broke down i realized that what was happening is when i reset the computer the truck starts right up, but the old computer runs longer then the new one without stalling. so i'm guessing something is shorting out computer. a ground i suppose? there were 3 ground on right passenger side of engine, one was off and i tried connecting it to computer, but it still stalls after a few miles.

i am now going to replace the ignition lock cylinder and the ignition switch on the steering wheel. because i read somewhere why not? pretty sure it won't work, but i feel seriously vested in this truck. not sure what to do after this try other then changing all the wires.

i ca't figure out if there is some sort of alarm system shutting off engine. any idea how to do that?

thanks, maybe this truck will work by this new years.

Check your live data. Start with the fuel trends (excessively positive or negative), then look at the intake air temp sensor reading. Do you still have a cat on the exhaust? It could be clogged up. If the IAT is hi or low (IAT), it can be coated with oil, especially if you have/had a blown plenum gasket. There are an infinite number of things that can cause these beasts to 'stall' and not a one of them will 'set as code'. For instance, my beast, '96 Ram1500 5.2 had ...the mystery stall...years back. T'would stall out on the road, very intermittent. Would start right back up n go on down the road...until?!? Discovered my 'fuel sync' was waaaay outta parameter. I stuck a cro-bar n me wallet n brought a bi-directional scan tool. I reset the fuel sync N VOILA, no more mystery stalls, not 1. Yeah, they're not cheap, I paid over $800 for mine, but it paid itself off in less than a year AND I no longer rely on the dude who always seems to find something else wrong with my vehicle when I took it to them.

Mine would stall coming to stop randomly a while back, turns out my exhaust (I ran a dual muffler setup) had melted the wiring in the rear speed sensor loom. Replaced wiring and new speed sensor and hasn’t done it since. Been about 6 months now.

I figured it was because the trans didn’t know when to shift so coming to stop it would stay in 3rd or something and stall. Only found this with live data on scanner when monitoring. I noticed my speedo would flicker time to time but on live data it was way off so that’s when I looked at it and found the bad wiring

but Mine would always restart. Never stayed dead

and I never had a check engine light, abs, or brake light on
