My 2001 1500 Crew Cab won't go into park. Started all of a sudden, it tries, but just won't get to the park position. So right now, I have to leave it in neutral with brake on to turn it off, but I can't get the key out so it stays inside. I've seen a couple of videos on Youtube that show lubricating a pawl that is supposed to pull back out of the way when the key is on, but I can't figure out how to take the covers off of the column to check for that. Any help is appreciated.

 

I would check the shift linkage first. Make sure it isn't just sloppy, or out of adjustment.

 

Hit up your local parts store and get new bushings for your shift linkage, replace those and then adjust your linkage till its in the proper position
