I have a 2001 ram 1500 5.2 5spd 4wd and my trucks having a weird issue where it idles almost like it has a misfire when its really hot outside temp stays cold it has a new rad and a 160° (I live in a place that gets really hot 110°+) thermostat and it won't throw any codes I’ve done plugs and wires I’ve chased vacuum leaks the new motor in it only has 30k on it and it just started doing this. It also feels shakey of i hold it at exactly 1400rpm but in normal driving it seems fine. Any input is appreciated thank you.

 

Get rid of the 160 and put in a 180 Stant. I've run the 180 for over 15 years in everything from TX to the top of Pikes Peak to 25 below SD winters. Might be a sensor too or crappy IAC if you put in a "new" one with the engine. Some more history and info would be helpful.

That 160 is definitely too cold. And if the truck not getting up to the proper temp and the pcm knows it. Its gonna run bad. I ran my truck with a broken coolant temp sensor for a week(pcm temp sensor not the gauge) and the truck ran like crap. So swap that 160 put with a stant, 180-185 is a good temp range for these trucks. Id also see if you can fi d someone with a higher end scanner like my snap on solus and have them reset all your adaptives as well. Oh, and check that coolant temp sensor as well. They have a habit of cracking and then theyll work when the vibration from the engine causes the inside of the sensor to move enough to create contact with itself.
also, pull your throttle body and clean it, and while youre doing that look down inside the kegger with your flashlight and see if your plenum gasket sucked itself in. Thatll cause some issues running as well. Especially when cold

 

No, these trucks are very shy of codes. I've had two in 20 years. They can run with lots of problems before giving a code. Good thing is, you'll know exactly what it is when they do!

I would suspect the TPS, Does the issue happen as soon as you start it or do you have to wait till it gets to operating temp? The newer years(2000 being newer) seem to be more sensitive to the stat temp. If you can hook it up the a scanner that reads live data it will show what's causing it.

 

The tps is a new part last time the tps went bad it stuttered right from cold and threw a code for it aswell now it takes it a lil time to heat up before it stumbles.

 

Was the new tps oem or aftermarket?
I went through 3 aftermarket tps to find a good one.
That’s why I stick with oem sensors now.

 

its aftermarket but its never given me any problems. It does not feel like the same problem last tome when it went bad.
