You can use some rtv or seal adhesive between strips if you want to be certain it’s sealed.

I didn’t use any sealant, and it doesn’t leak.
That is what I will do no rtv they stuff seems to end up everywhere when I use it

That's The issue with mine. To bad you didn't know the name of it
They had 5 foot rolls of different thicknesses, They used to make gaskets out of it for industrial use. If you do some searching on google you can find places that sell smaller amounts of it.

They have single rolls listed, but that was not much less than the double roll package I got.
And I almost used a whole roll to do the job.

How bad was taking the HVAC box apart? Since I have it out I might as well do all the seals

Pretty easy... take a pic of where the wire and hose clips go to make life easier putting it back together.
The most time consuming part is cleaning all the old foam off.
It’s a job worth doing while the box is out.

I don’t know if the actuator fails, but the plastic connector between the actuator and the door does fail.
Lookup Heater Treater for the common fix... or make your own.

Mine’s a 98 so everything is vacuum or cable operated.

Unless the doors are damaged, a clean up and new seal makes the good as (better than) new.
