It's mounted on the master cylinder and you have to pull it to get it off. I messed mine up and just installed a jumper. The only issue is in you can start the truck without pressing the clutch, I believe Rockauto sells just the switch.

I jumped the switch and now the truck starts from the ignition switch! No more crawling under the truck to spark the starter contacts!

Just be careful you don't start it in gear. As much trouble as you've had with that puppy, you probably won't forget. If someone borrows it though.......

Mark, if you have a 12v manual quad cab truck, you have one of the last 215 HP 12V made. Its probably one of the dodge's diesel holy grail trucks (98 was the only year for a quad cab/12v). If its the 24v it will have one single long valve cover, 12v will have six valve covers. I had a 98 24v manual quad 4wd truck, that I converted into 12v. I used to have over 20 5.9/6.7 engines laying around at one time and had five 2nd gen trucks over the years.

The nv4500 (five speed manual) is a good transmission, worst issue is that the fifth gear will slide on the shaft making fifth gear unreachable/unavailable. Its a simple fix as several vendor sell a fifth gear fix solution.

If you could post pics of the truck?

Hi Mike,
It's a 24V turbo diesel manual. You had me all excited there for a bit! It's still a beast of an engine according to my brother. I currently have 4 gen2's in my yard and driveway

Nice ride, I currently just own one 2nd gen (my kid is saving up his pennies to buy it off me), but I own two 4th gens one a 3500 6.7L and a 1500 5.7L. My wife thinks that I'm a horder. I used to have twenty 5.9's/6.7's engines at one time. I just wished I snapped more pictures of my previous trucks.

Worst thing on the 98 is the electric fuel pump, they get weak and kill the injection pump. I had one 02 truck over 600rwhp at one time.

Thanks Austin, I've heard that hemi's have poor oiling to the lifters and that's what ruin the camshaft. They also have cracked exhaust manifold issues. It will just give me an excuse to do some upgrades to the engine down the road. The 1500 has the new eight speed transmission and the shifter is on the dash (very weird deal).

You are welcome Mike! Everybody has their own theory and some of the known fixes are Redline oil, hellcat lifters, and disabling MDS. Headers seem to get rid of the broken manifold bolt issue. That dial is stopping me from getting a new Power Wagon. With the TRX having the 8 spd but the shifter in the console, they might open up doors for a swap.

Wow Austin, I can't even imagine what one of those TRX trucks would be like to drive. I've been looking at powerwagons, but the the SLT is more for me as I need more decent high way gears. I'm just going to keep my 2010 3500 for the heavy trailer pullin, but she gonna need some wrench lovin soon. I wasn't impressed with a newer diesel prices and lack of power vs my 2010 diesel.

I just want a newer pounder as I don't have time to be fixing stuff and I'm too cheap to buy brand new, but I can say is I have been pretty impressed so far with the power of the 2016 5.7/8 speed (395HP). Its been snowing here and is quite icy (we get eight of months of winterness up here). Seen a few videos of the 1500 5.7L getting sub 6 sec 0-60 times, sure a big step up in power from the 300000 miler 5.2L magnum. My kid wants to build-up my spare 5.9L (360 gaser).

I do sure miss my 98 2500 quad cab short bed five speed.
