Default Help with cruise control wiring

Hi guys,
i need some help with a steering wheel swap im working on. I put a wheel from a 2000 ram on my 97 (cant stand the early model wheels lol) and the only problem im having is the cruise control. Ill try to post pics but the 97 wheel has one plug for the cruise control and the 2000 wheel has 2 plugs. I assumed that the yellow/red was the cruise on/off and the brown/red was the set speed. So naturally i hillbilly spliced those two wires into the correct plug/buttons on the new wheel. Unfortunately that didnt work and im now at a loss for what to try next. I dont really care about any of the other functions as long as the on/off and set speed works. Also was confused by the fact that there was 4 wires going to the 97 buttons but only 3 prongs for the plug. Any help would be appreciated! Also if anybody else wants to do the swap everything else is very straightforward, horn and airbag were both plug and play.

You can get service manuals for both year trucks from here, wiring diagrams are in section 8W. See what the wires look like, and also if they use the same resistance values to clue in the PCM as to what to do.

Yep! Only thing was the switches did the same as the 97 did. Because the resistant values are different. For example set is also decel even though the 98 and up have their own decel button
