Default Starting issue

Good evening. I am still having an issue with my truck starting after changing out the neutral safety switch. In order to get it to start I either have to manipulate the gear selector or it just turn the key on off until the starter engages. Any thoughts on what the issue is would be appreciated. Can the shift linkage be adjusted?

Check the shift linkage for slop/worn parts, when you have everything tight, make sure it is adjusted properly.

As stated, the shifter linkage bushings tend to wear or fall out, leaving slop in the linkage and causing the issue you're having. The OE bushing part number should be 3575333. I've found them on eBay. You can also check the HELP section in the auto parts stores for a kit of them, too, however, I prefer the OE bushings via a Google search, as they're still readily available and fit the best.

Thank you for the reply’s. Are the bushings all the same size and are they hard to replace? They appear to be a simple press on design. And do you have any tips on how to replace them.

They need to be warm when you install them. And some grease on the parts that move isn't a bad plan either. Should be a pretty easy job.

Thank you. Sounds like a spring time job along with shocks, lights, and steering stabilizer. I did replace the rear bumper. She is a work in progress.

You could certainly purchase one new, but you'd almost certainly have to have it painted the color of your truck.

You can try checking car-part.com for a used bumper that 'might' match the color of your truck. I once had to swap out a front fender on my wife's car that got hit in a parking lot while parked and no note was left by the fender-bending offender. I ended up finding one via car-part.com locally that was an exact match, color and all.
