Default Under hood light

Lately driving at night and going over gravel road bumps I can see my hood light flashing. The hood is shut all the way, bulb is tight in the socket. What controls the light to come on and turn off when you open and close the hood?

I think the light has a mercury switch in it... when the hood is up the switch is made.
I guess if the road is rough enough the mercury ball would bounce around and make the contacts.

I have a similar issue with my under hood light. I just disconnected it for now, but will also check the bracket.
