Default 2001 1500 4x4 pcm failure

If I send the pcm to a shop for repair will it need to be reflashed? Can you trust a good used and would it need to be reflashed also? What is best remedy for a pcm failure?

Usually repairing doesn't require a flash. Getting a used one from a junkyard or eBay will require reflashing

Re 2001 pcm...Just one more question please.
I live in a no smog test needed area. Has anyone just bypassed the pcm with an after market ignition system for running the engine?

That would likely be more expensive than finding a PCM that works....... Essentially, ANY pcm from an 01 truck with the same engine/trans combo that you have, should at least run the engine. Get it flashed to the correct VIN, and everything should be good.
